BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Patrick & Dwaina Six Patrick—I was blessed to have been born into a Christian family. I am the youngest of four children. I am thankful to be able to say that it was my parents who taught me about the Christian life through their lifestyle and the way they led our family. At a young age I began to see that it was not our church attendance or being a good kid that would “get me into heaven.” I began to realize that I was a sinner. I needed to invite Jesus to forgive me of my sins and give me His gift of eternal life. While in the pastor’s office I prayed that prayer, and was soon baptized as a believer/follower of Jesus Christ. While in college I joined the First Baptist Church in our college town. During those years in college the Lord seemed to have taken me by the hand and led me into the path of some very strong Christian students who showed me what it really means to live the life of a disciple of Jesus Christ. Although I was regular in reading my Bible while in junior high and high school, I did not really grow significantly as a Christian. But in college I began to journal what God was showing me. My prayer times became deeper and more significant. I also began to memorize Scripture, which was a discipline that still influences my life to this day.I do not remember a specific time, and I did not respond publicly, but I do remember, during those college days, praying and telling the Lord that I would go wherever He sent me, and do whatever He told me. At that time I was studying to teach school and coach sports. It was during college that Dwaina and I met. Because we attended the same church, were involved in the same campus ministries, and ran in the same circle of friends, we became very good friends as well. God eventually allowed us to grow in love with each other and we were married on January 1st, 1983.I can see that God is constantly seeking to teach me to follow Him, and to conform me to the image of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. After two years of itinerate ministry in response to His call on our lives He is teaching me that He is still in control. While I am ever watchful to see what He is instructing us to do, I realize that our lives are in His hands.Recently I was reminded through a study of Romans 4 that, like Abraham, I MUST: 1) Not waver in unbelief concerning God’s call on our lives; 2) Grow strong in faith; 3) Give glory to God; and 4) Be assured that God is able to perform what He has promised. I am continuing to grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Dwaina— I was not raised in a Christ-centered family, but I was raised in a very close, loving family. I attended church and youth group by myself throughout my high school years at the church where my friends went. Finally, during the summer after I graduated from high school, I surrendered my life to Christ and sought His forgiveness for my sin. I started college that same fall of 1980 and got involved with a campus ministry where I began to grow spiritually. The leader of our campus ministry and his wife began discipling several of us and they also taught us to minister and teach. Our ministry group traveled all over the panhandle of Texas holding Dating Seminars for high school and junior high teens. Patrick and I both loved teaching teens in seminar-type settings about God’s principles for relationships and how they could apply those principles to their dating life to experience God’s best. Patrick and I grew in our friendship during these college years and eventually our friendship deepened into love as we applied the principles we were teaching! We began dating but almost immediately knew that God had brought us together and that we wanted to serve Him together. We married on New Year’s Day of 1983 while still in college. After graduation, we moved to Lubbock Texas where Patrick was a junior high school coach. Our plan was for Patrick to start graduate school and get a degree in marriage and family counseling. That never happened as we got involved teaching in the youth department at our church and Patrick sensed God calling him to vocational ministry. Even during the years of youth ministry, preparing the teens for a godly marriage in the future was key. When Patrick sensed God calling him to vocational ministry, I knew that God was calling me, too. Today, I definitely feel called to “ministry” and to speak and teach. My spiritual gift (according to all the spiritual gift inventories I have taken!) is prophecy and I love proclaiming the truths of God and compelling people through speaking and teaching to trust Him and obey Him. I have been studying through Genesis recently and have just started on Beth Moore’s study of the life of David. I definitely want to have “a heart like His”!Call to Marriage and Family Ministry: In 1993 we were invited to serve on the staff of the Fall Festival of Marriage at Glorieta, N.M. God birthed a desire in our hearts at that moment to be used by Him to strengthen marriages and families. From our years in Youth Ministry we could see the desire among our young people to have healthy families, and to have parents who really loved each other. We saw so many young people from broken homes, and we were called upon to minister to many teenagers who were being raised by a single parent. Through a study of Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God we began to see through the Spiritual Markers exercise that God has gifted us with the ability to teach together, and He had given us a passion for marriages and families. We also learned that God still speaks to His children today, and He was speaking to us.We continued to serve as a minister to the local church, but through the years our desire for the freedom to minister to marriages and families on an itinerate basis grew stronger. We just couldn’t see how to do that and make a living (we still can’t). Finally, while attending a youth conference, God presented His clarion call for us to join Him in His work of ministering to marriages and families. As we wept due to the conviction of the Holy Spirit we surrendered to God’s call. We would resign ourselves from the security of a salary and avail ourselves to travel wherever God opened doors for us to go in ministry. I resigned from my pastorate in 2003, and we have been doing this ministry since that time. For scheduling or for more information contact them at:
